Property for sale in Valldemossa, Mallorca: area guide

Valldemossa is a mountain village in the Serra de Tramuntana, about half an hour from Palma. This guide explains what you should know about property for sale in Valldemossa: the village and its surroundings, the type of homes and the key checks before buying or selling.

What Valldemossa is like

The village is known for the Royal Charterhouse (Cartoixa), where the composer Frédéric Chopin and the writer George Sand spent a winter in the 19th century. Around it, cobbled streets of stone houses decorated with plants climb the hillside, with views over the valley.

Valldemossa is reached from Palma by the Ma-1110 road. From the village, the Ma-10 continues along the coast towards Deià and Sóller, and a winding road descends to Port de Valldemossa, a small cove with a few houses.

Types of property in Valldemossa

In the village there are traditional stone townhouses, many with small gardens or terraces. Around it, in the valley and on the slopes, there are country houses and fincas with olive groves and terraces, and some newer detached houses.

Whatever the type of home, the condition of the property, its orientation, its outdoor space and the state of its documents make a real difference to its value and to how easy it is to sell. Before you compare properties for sale in Valldemossa, it is worth knowing what to look out for.

What to check before buying in Valldemossa

  • Planning rules in the Serra de Tramuntana protected landscape can limit works.
  • In the historic centre, possible heritage protection.
  • For country properties on rural land: licences and the legal status of every building.
  • Access and water supply for houses outside the village.
  • The nota simple from the Land Registry, the IBI receipt and, if there is one, the community of owners’ certificate of no debts.

Never sign an arras contract or pay a deposit before these points have been checked. It is much easier to solve a problem, or walk away, before you are committed.
